I can't think of a title for this. I love Yoshiki.

So I've noticed something recently. I've been having more success than usual with my writing [I've got three pieces for Clear, the best magazine of all time], and I think it's because I've finally learned to cut the bullshit.

There are books that tell you the 'proper' way to write a cover letter, the right 'etiquette' when submitting your work, how exactly you should go about publishing a specific type of piece. I did that for years. 'Thank you for your consideration.'

In the past year or so I've decided that there's nothing more boring than a stale submission letter. These poor editors probably read that crap every day. And it does nothing to exhibit what your piece is about, or what your writing style does for the world. So I said fuck it. Screw the rules.

I have no 'cover letter' file. I just write whatever I really think. 'Every issue is like an artifact.' 'It's pretty weird.' 'You rule!' The editors that I correspond with regularly - Ivana from Clear and John for the Yawp - are the ones that publish me, because I've become comfortable using the vernacular with them.

No more form letters for me.

Ah, 'Without you'. The love, the love!
