Haru made ni aimashyo. 2006-05-02 6:11 pm I just finished an article in Poets & Writers about how all writers have a responsibility to read and support the literary market. And my reponse is - what the fuck, if you don't read then you're not a writer in the first place, so what's the goddamn point? It's not a 'responsibility'; it's a necessity - part of the writing identity. If you don't read, you can't write. Period. Any kid who purports to 'write poetry' and yet hasn't read anybody else's poetry for ten years is not a poet. Any MFA virtuoso who avoids reading in order to get more work done is not a writer. Any magazine journalist who doesn't regularly read magazine articles is not a writer. There are few points on which I stand so adamantly, but this is one of them. On a lighter note, have a happy hide memorial day. Drink a pink drink and sing a spider song.
